The word "redemption" means to be bought at a price from judgment. It is expressed by a number of different Greek words in the New Testament.
"Exagoradzo", used twice by Paul, means to be "bought out from." Three points are in view:
a) from what or where the item is bought out; b) what price was paid for it; and c) for what purpose was it bought out?
The word means "to rescue by buying away from for a personal use."
Galatians 3:13 tells us that Christ bought us out from under the curse of the law. That curse is God's pronouncement of judgment for violation of His law of righteousness.
God demands that people keep His law perfectly, and promises eternal judgment to all those who do not. Since no man can keep the law, but we are all sinners, therefore we are all under the curse of the law.
Indeed, Paul proves logically that no man can be righteous by keeping the law, because the just live by faith, and law-keeping is not faith, but works.
But Christ has bought us out from the curse of the law! Paul tells us that the purpose of this is that we might receive the blessings of Abraham, which is the gospel promised through his seed, the Lord Jesus!
Just as Abraham received that promise of salvation through Jesus Christ by faith, so too can we all. In fulfillment of that promise, Jesus died to buy us out of the curse of the law.
Those gospel blessings shall continue and expand for all eternity! Once we were under the curse, but Christ bought us out of the curse, and placed us under everlasting blessings promised to Abraham by faith.
The price paid was terrible: to buy us out from the curse, Jesus put Himself in our place under the curse for us!
