Jesus said things that displayed incredible wisdom, but it ended up offending the locals. Some people will resent it when we are successful. The way we respond to Jesus, as Christians, must be in reverential awe. Familiarity breeds contempt. To be in authority, we have to be under authority. Jesus gave His disciples the power over the demons, to heal, and command people to repent; then they were able to do what they could not do before. If we truly repent, our behavior changes. We stop doing the same old stuff. Jesus’ disciples, when they were sent out, were commanded to trust in Him for everything. When we are walking in obedience, trusting in Jesus, then we are in a good place to do as He commanded. The focus on our missions and evangelism is to focus on people who are responding to the gospel. (Mark 6:7-12 and Acts) We must repent, and that is a message of hope. The fact that we can repent means God is giving us the message that we can change. If Jesus tells us to drive out demons and heal the sick, we will be able to do it because Jesus commands us.
