I am excited to be back in the pulpit this week as we continue our summer series in Daniel. We have come to the famous passage in which Daniel is cast into the lion's den because he refused to obey the edict that no-one pray to anyone except the king. Daniel sets a moral example (Dare to be a Daniel) as he refuses to compromise his faith and honors God through faithfulness in prayer. Daniel also points us to Christ who also was the victim of a conspiracy on the part of jealous enemies who manipulated a weak ruler. Both Jesus and Daniel are miraculously delivered from death and God's enemies are subsequently crushed. We also see a picture of God's deliverance of us. While King Darius was unable to rescue Daniel because of his own laws, our God and King has rescued us from judgment without compromising His justice. God also again demonstrates His sovereignty over world rulers, which was a comfort to His oppressed exiled people in Daniel's day and should be a wonderful consolation to us today.
