The Israelites' addiction to pagan high places is well-known. These focal-points for god-worship included shrines in the hills and monoliths on the plains. They all use elevation as a suitable way to approach divine beings, and this was no doubt something programmed into the minds of men. God himself used height to represent his most-high nature. Yet he did outlaw the high places, and sadly even many of the best kings left the high places untouched. What of our high places, though? That is, the high places of sin we have erected in our hearts. Have we been ruthless enough in pulling them down?
