Haggai reminded them that while ceremonial uncleanness was easily communicated, holiness was not. So it is spiritually; it takes no effort to become defiled, but much to become holy. Yet holiness is worth it, and the God who calls us to it does not leave us to our own strength in our pursuit of it.
