His Fame Never Saves
He Does!
What we see is that people followed him because of his fame. But they weren't following him because of his good news nor his truth of who he is. They just will follow him because of the fame. Look, I think it says that, where does it say that? Look in Mark chapter one, maybe? Yeah, Mark one, look in verse 28. Mark 1:28 says, and immediately, his fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee. Not his truth. Not his purpose. But it's fame. And it's inevitable that it's gonna spread. But you see, the closer Jesus gets to Jerusalem. That's why Jesus kept telling him not to tell, not the tell. Don't tell anyone! Why? It wasn't his time yet. And the more his fame went out from that perspective, the more it would stir up the people on that day to come against him. So he's telling him Don't go! Because His purpose, His purpose, and His truths had not become as clear yet. And they were running off his fame, but not his truth. And that is what we have here. There was still more to come, there were still more things to teach, and the closer he got to Jerusalem. For his purpose in coming, the more narrow his teaching became on what it would cost to come after him. You see, initially it was this broad, you hear his fame and people coming out to see. And the more he narrowed it down, the less people followed him, and the crowds got smaller and smaller. And that is just something that as we walk through these gospels, we want to pick up on and recognize that is a reality. Those things do happen. His fame spread, not his truth. Not the favor of God upon him. But it was more about just His fame! Natural man can't receive the things of the Spirit. |
