Worship-driven. Whatever we do, do for the glory of God. We must offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, including offering our money (really, God's money). All of life is worship, whether we worship God or other things.
Grace-driven. “[Sacrificial] giving follows grace.” (Randy Alcorn, The Treasure Principle) Giving is an expression of grace. There should be an abundant overflowing of grace that affects all aspects of our lives, even our money. Meditate on God's grace.
Relationship-driven. How sacrificially we give shows how strong our relationship is with the Lord. We should give ourselves first to Christ, and all else will follow. Spend more time with God in prayer, scripture, mediation, obedience, and worship.
Love-driven. Love for God and our neighbours is the law. This is the extent of God's love: He gave us the greatest gift - Himself. If we are filled with love for God, it will be proven by our love for our neighbours. True love truly gives.
The motivations for Christian giving:
God's glory. God gets the glory in thanksgiving abounding, for from Him through Him and to Him are all things. This should be our prime motivation for everything even giving.
Other's good. People have physical needs to be met. Let us supply their temporal needs in the name of Christ, accompanying it with the gospel, so that their eternal needs may also be met.
Our reward. We will be enriched in every way. Some of us can be spiritually languishing because we are materially selfish. We need to believe that God will reward us and have faith in His promises.
Let us pray over these things and seek God's will for our finances.
