If you were to ask the average person on the street if they had any idols, you can probably expect the same answer each time. Let's take it a step further; if you were to ask any christian the same question, what kind of response could you expect? When we think of idols, we tend to picture a small wooden carving of Buddha sitting on a fireplace, or perhaps a group of people crowded around a golden statue while saying their prayers. However, if were to specify what an idol is, we must ask a question- what would you be willing to disobey God to obtain? It may be skipping church to go to a sports game, or lie in order to get drugs or alcohol.
We find in the very first commandment a simple order: to put nothing before Him - and that may be something we need a reminder of.
