In this passage of Scripture, the Apostle Paul once again addresses out daily conduct. We have learned in Ephesians 1-3 about our glorious salvation in Christ Jesus, our new identity in him, our position in the heavenlies, the glory of His Lordship, the power of raising the spiritually dead to life, the unifying effect of the gospel in the local church, the unsearchable riches of Christ, the overwhelming love of our great Lord and Savior Jesus, and God’s ability to do through the church above all that we could ask or think. Brother and Sister, we have so great a salvation! We are rich in the blessings of the Lord. Our lives are no longer our own. We have been bought with a price! In chapters 4-6, Paul addresses our practical Christianity. If we say we believe chapters 1-3, then he tells us we must walk in humility (4:2), walk in unity (4:13), walk differently (4:17), walk in newness of life (Rom. 6:4), walk in love (5:2), walk in light (5:8), and today we will look at the call to walk in wisdom (5:15). Jesus gave us the same admonition in Matthew 10:16 saying, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Jesus encouraged his disciples to be wise and careful as they serve Him in the world. |
