What was the Puritan's view of Scripture and of grace?
Joel Beeke explains in this video that everything that comes to us is by God's grace. The Reformers and the Puritans loved Scripture. They meditated on it. They were guided by it. They understood that everything was a gift from God. They were saved by grace.
Living by grace alone, by faith alone, and by Scripture alone fosters a genuine piety in the life of the believer. It is distinct from the Roman Catholic idea that piety is based on one's owns works. Rather, true piety flows out of a gratitude for God's grace and the gift of salvation.
Hebrews 12:28 (NKJV) – “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”
