Gal 2:4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
The Judiazers had infiltrated the ranks of the true believers. They intruded without invitation the apostle’s private conference. Their goals were twofold. 1) They sought to observe the freedom from the Mosaic Law and the freedom from Legalism, which the gospel provides. 2) They wanted to make Christians slaves. They wanted to bring believers into bondage, to enslave them to the Law’s rules and ceremonies. Specifically they insisted that Titus be circumcised. For Paul to impose circumcision on Titus would be a denial of the truth of the gospel. This struggle was to be a blessing for all of Christianity. Because Paul knew to fight this issue the church then taught that the gospel was free from anything which men would try and add to it. Churches today are still trying to add to the gospel and we have the book of Galatians to show us that any addition to the gospel is false.
