The exiles – those people who were driven out of Jerusalem for their sins – they are like the good figs – the first-ripe fig that my soul desires! But the remnant are spoiled figs that no one can eat.
But God has a habit of turning the world upside-down. This is why (as I look at our topsy-turvy world) I begin to wonder what God might have up his sleeve!
