A short sermon on the Feast of Weeks and the Day of Pentecost presented on VBS Sunday with many little children from the community in attendance.
The Feast of Weeks took place 7 weeks or 50 days after the Feast of Passover and Unleavened Bread. Traditionally the Jews came to understand this as a time to commemorate the giving of the law. The Hellinized Jews called this day 'Pentecost'. On the year that Jesus was crucified and raised, the day of Pentecost, described in Acts 2, becomes significant for the Christian church on the day that the Holy Spirit came in power and 3000 were added to the church in a single day.
Is there any connection between the Old and New Testament understanding of this day?
