Many start well; Few finish well! Paul could say at the end of his life that he had fought the good fight, had finished the course, and had kept the faith. He finished well. But what about you and I? We who are running the race for Christ-- will we finish well? The writer to the Hebrews was addressing second generation Jewish Christians who were in danger of dropping out of the race-- giving up on following after Jesus. In Hebrews 12. he encourages those surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses to continue to run the race. Three 'Let us' encourages us on. First, let us run with endurance the race. The Christian life is not a 100 yard dash, but rather a marathon. The race demands perseverance, steady determination. Secondly, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which ensnares us. We need to shed some spiritual pounds. Run light. And then, thirdly, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith. Let's run for the same reason Jesus ran-- the joy of exaltation-- to hear at the end of our lives, 'well done, good and faithful servant.'! Let's finish well!
