Rev. Artress introduces Christianity to walking a labyrinth Rev. Artress of a very universalistic church called Grace Cathedral introduced her church to walking a labyrinth in 1992. Since then, Grace Cathedral has had over one million people of all faiths come to walk their labyrinth. Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, New Agers and even Wiccans have walked their labyrinth. Rev. Artress is one of the more influential people involved with making popular and promoting the practice of walking labyrinths, in the Christian Church and she describes the labyrinth as a symbol for the divine mother, the God within, the goddess, the holy in all creation. Artress also leads a “a holy sisterhood that reveals the other face of God”, called Whitefire. The Labyrinth “Is truly a tool for transformation, a crucible for change, a blueprint for the sacred meeting of the psyche and the soul, a field of light, a cosmic dance, it is a center for empowering ritual.” (Lauren Artress) Should we Christians allow this practice of walking a labyrinth into our church? After all we have covered in the previous days, is there any doubt that this practice is not of God? Will God bless us as we take a clearly pagan practice and try to use it in a Christian context?
