To ponder further
1. In chapter 13 of our Confession of Faith that talks about Sanctification, paragraph 3 says that "saints grow in grace, perfecting holiness in the fear of God, pressing after an heavenly life, in evangelical obedience to all the commands which Christ, as Head and King, in His word hath prescribed to them." The word "evangelical" means "gospel". Why is our obedience to Christ called "gospel obedience"? What is the significance of this?
2. In asking: "What is sanctification?" (Q38), our Baptist Catechism says that "Sanctification is the work of God's free grace . . ." Why would the Catechism emphasize that our growth in holiness is the work of God's free grace instead of our dutiful obedience? What is the significance of this?
