Jesus has been arrested and He's been tried, He's been crucified, and now chapter 20 deals with His resurrection. There is no greater event in history. If Christ hadn't resurrected, man would be the most pitied of all species.
1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. There have been so many misunderstandings about this Mary. She's the one who had demons cast out of her. Her name could be Mary of Magdala, which there was a city named Magdala, but we do know that she's the one who loved Jesus so much she didn't run off during the crucifixion like the rest of His disciples did. She stayed through the whole awful horrible event. A sepulcher was a cave where they stored dead bodies, and they rolled a big stone over the doorway and let the body dry out and decay for a year, then they put the bones in a box and deliver it to the family. Mary saw the stone had been removed and she was worried.
2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. Mary is sure somebody has stolen Jesus' body so she went and told Simon Peter.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. John got to the tomb first because he was about 18 years old, younger than Peter, but Peter was the elder and John waited on Peter to enter first out of respect.
