Not only has God spoken in the last days by His Son but He continues to speak to us in the present by His Spirit. Indeed the Spirit warns us not to harden our hearts to the voice of the living God like Israel did in the wilderness and miss out on the Rest that God has planned for us. As a result that generation missed out on entering the Promised Land.
The rebellion of Israel seems an obvious thing for us to avoid but it is clear that temptation for us to turn away from the living God may be more subtle than we may have realised. Unbelief and wilful disobedience that leads to abandoning true faith is often clothed in what seems reasonable and attractive. Sin can often sneak in under the appearance of being something good.
The present day of God’s grace is not something that we should take for granted but instead daily encourage one another to persevere in faith so that we are not deceived into unbelief and as a result unable to enter the Rest that God has promised.
