“I know I’m inappropriate, but I’m trying to save time. I know I’m in the wrong. My mother would not approve. But would it be better that I not come?” Those were the words of a 30-year-old woman entering church in Maryland wearing a revealing tank top and tight pants.

God bless her, but that’s in the same spirit as saying, “I know it’s inappropriate to cuss in church, but I can’t think of any better way to say it,” or, “I know it’s inappropriate to smoke during praise and worship, but I didn’t have time to finish my Marlboro on the way here.”

“ Sanctified thinking that goes along way! ”
Thanks for discussing sanctified attire. It is obvious the church is obsessed about portraying worldly images, rather than to reflect the image of a pure God in a fallen world. It is baffling to perceive how many fail to discern that showing cleavages or thighs, wearing cleaving items, bikinis/swimming suits, or unisex dress codes do not represent biblical values, but the world's.

I enjoy these discussions but was so impressed with the seriousness of pastors who would discuss this, I called my wife and said that we should transfer to Fayetteville. Pastors that seriously discuss these things are not likely to become the subjects of books such as "Fundamental Seduction." “ About time! ”
Public nudity is a mark of depravity. The church is silent on thod subject becaise the male leaders like to see it. They may not get in the bed with another woman, but do with their eyes and heart whicj is adultery according to Christ. Ladies, cover yourself up and wear loose clothing. Stop looking like the promiscuous godless women in our society and honor Christ with your attire. Stop enticing the men at church who are there to worship Christ not look upon your shame. Men, be a man and exercise godly self control and not look. Do not allow a woman or anyone through the door who is not covered up. If the person wants to be there to hear the word, they will cover up and come.

Amen, Amen and AMEN! I am a just turned 40 year old woman, Generation X. And I agree 110%. If I as a woman am distracted, no wonder men are! Rebecca St James tried to hop on Modest is Hottest, but someone on her facebook noticed she wears skin tight leather pants and yoga pants and tops and mentioned how that isn't modest. People were MEAN to that commentor. Alfonzo Washington, a conservative commentator who says he's a Christian, has a rock band, 20lb Sledge and says they don't degrade women, yet his youtube music video he has women in bikini's and when someone pointed it out, he called him/her a pharisee and legalistic and a liar. If we are Christians, we need to have a teachable spirit. You shall know them by their fruit. I teach my daughter you don't have to be overtly immodest to not be modest. Meaning, even if you aren't wearing a bikini or daisy dukes, that doesn't mean you are living up to Christian modesty. I work in a corporate office and I look modest and fashionable, and so does my teenage daughter. Unfortunately for single ladies, when a woman comes into church looking immodest if she is attractive, all the single guys focus their attention and desire on her, overlooking the nice modest girls.
