Moses gives a vivid portrayal of the rebellion of the older generation in their attempt to take the Promised Land. Despite all that God had done for them to save them from the Egyptians and to bring them to the Land that He had promised they still recoiled in fear and disobeyed the command to enter and take the land. Moses focuses his account on the root cause of their rebellion, unbelief. Just like ancient Israel, we too disobey God’s good commands. This account functioned for the following generation as a warning to obey in faith, it continues to warn believers today that their sinful actions are not a result of circumstances or genetics but erupt from remaining unbelief in the heart.
