Are you thirsty? On the last day of the feast of Tabernacles Jesus stood and preached in the midst of the Temple courts crying out 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink'
The thirst Jesus spoke of wasn't a simple physical thirst, it was the thirst of a parched soul. The thirst of the sinner who is thirsty for righteousness, the thirst of the man cut off from God and seeking forgiveness. ONLY Christ can quench that kind of thirst, and we will only have our thirst quenched if we believe in Him.
C.S. Lewis gave a wonderful illustration of this principle in his novel the Silver Chair as Jill finds out the hard way that 'there is no other stream' from which she can drink.
Jesus promised that out of the heart of the one who believes in Him would flow streams of living water - that promise was marvelously fulfilled at Pentecost and continues to be fulfilled as the gospel waters flow from believers to the four corners of the earth.
