Aim: To be doggedly persistent in the fight of the faith.
Doctrine: Faithful perseverance always leads to eventual victory in Christ. This does not come to us without effort, and yet it is (still) all of grace.
Exegesis: Some typical characteristics of the church's triumph in Christ: at first, things can look bad for us (again) (vv. 29-32a); but then, the Lord frustrates His foes (vv. 32b-37); finally, God provides signs to encourage His faithful people (vv. 38-46).
Further application: Why Christ's true church should never give up the fight: because King Jesus rules supremely over all things, and He delights in His church's success.
Key verse: v. 35 ''The Lord defeated Benjamin before Israel. And the children of Israel destroyed that day twenty-five thousand one hundred Benjamites; all these drew the sword.''
