1. THE PRECISE TIMING “the hour has come” – refers to the death of Jesus and what immediately preceded it
2. THE PETITION “glorify your Son...” – in the case of Jesus it meant a reinstatement of what he had (left) – v. 5!
3. THE PURPOSE (a) “that the Son may glorify you...” – this was Christ’s ultimate concern - living as a human being brought the Son to share “man’s chief end”! (b) “...that he may give eternal life” – the way he would glorify the Father! - v. 2 takes us back to the authority given to the Son before the creation - within this authority is the Son’s grant of eternal life to those given to him (c) “this is eternal life...” – this is Christ’s definition not John’s comment! - to “know” God is to live in a personal relationship of friendship with him! - “the only true God” means that serving every other “god” is idolatry! - “and Jesus Christ” – he alone is God’s “Agent” and our Mediator
