Today’s message is taken from John 21:15-17 and is titled “Jesus Recommissions His Disciples – Feed My Sheep: The Work of a Good Shepherd.”
In the last message, we began to look at these three verses where Jesus restores Peter. We saw the Good Shepherd at work to reclaim and restore one of His own sheep. Peter had wandered and sinned grievously and Jesus continued the restoration process, continuing His work shepherding Peter, in the presence of six other disciples. Jesus was recreating the circumstances of the original meeting with Peter at his fishing occupation. We see Peter given the opportunity of repeating his love for Jesus three times as a bookend to his three denials of Him (both incidents around a charcoal fire).
What is the nature of the pastoral ministry? What is the nature of an elder’s ministry, and what are we called to do for one another. In today’s message we will look at one essential requirement for the ministry and one primary responsibility.
