So both the Holy Apostles and Holy Prophets are fitted to bear the Eternal Word of God, who ever lives at his Father’s side, who has access, through whom we have access to the Father, and who comes forth into the world in the fullness of the Spirit’s power, his anointing, to make the Father known. The apostles and the prophets serve the mission of the Eternal Word of God Incarnate. And together they bear the Word of Truth. And as Peter says to us, this is the word of truth that we passed on to you. This is the Word of Truth that we hold tightly whenever we hold tightly to the word of truth in the Bible. God’s word is true. The Bible is the visible manifestation of the Spirit’s provision to the church in this present age of the Word of God. And whenever we read the Bible, whenever particularly we hear the Bible read to us, or preached to us, we are hearing God speak through a human voice, analogous to the work of a prophet, not exactly the same, but analogous to. The work of preaching is a prophetic work in the sense that it is the word of God that we preach. As we preach the word of God, you are able to hear, in a created voice, God speaking directly to you. What he is saying to you this evening is that you can trust the Bible. And this word is the word that is able to make you alive for salvation. And this is the word that is able to galvanize you and strengthen you for living in the world from day to day. And this is the Word that makes you holy. And this is the Word that feeds you. This is the word that reassures you. This is the word that will heal you. This is the word which just the effect of it in you
