Aim: To be fully joined to Christ by the God of signs.
Doctrine: The God of signs always points everyone and all things to Jesus Christ. God uses signs because He essentially exists outside the space-time continuum; and yet, He has entered it in the second Person of the Trinity's incarnation.
Exegesis: How the God of signs aids us in our weakness: the Lord accommodates our budding faith (vv. 17-18); the Lord instructs our sincere faith (vv. 19-20); the Lord confirms our growing faith (v. 21).
Further application: How the God of signs directs His church to Himself today: through preaching, by which He brings us to Jesus, and through the Lord's Supper, by which He shows us Jesus.
Key verse: v. 17 ''Then [Gideon] said to [the Angel], 'If now I have found favor in Your sight, then show me a sign that it is You who talk with me.'''
