In John 13, Jesus gives us a 'new' commandment - to love one another. Obedience to this commandment is THE sign of our legitimacy as children of God, and THE sign of our orthodoxy and orthopraxy. Jesus himself sets the 'example' or 'pattern' of this love to be followed by us in our relationships with one another. This is in fact the way Jesus exercises his authority and power - in love. What's more, the promised impact of this love is that 'by this all people will know that you are my disciples…' This is a truly astonishing promise – do we really take it seriously?
