Parenting ain't easy (to state the obvious)! It's said that raising children does not come with an owner's manual, and it is true. However, the Word of God does provide the instruction a parent needs to successfully raise our children. Pastor Simpson taught from Proverbs 19:18-21 and a few other verses sharing with us instruction from the Word of God. As parents, we are instructed to discipline in love, not in anger! Additionally, we're all familiar with the results of when the Word of God is misunderstood, inappropriately used and wrongly interpreted; discipline without love or instruction can quickly become abusive and deeply wrong. For instance, when the Bible instructs to use the "rod of correction", the Bible is not suggesting that a parent should be abusive or brutal in any regard. Parents, we MUST be reasonable yet firm, and we must be firm yet compassionate. Additionally, the Bible instructs children to hear counsel and receive instruction. Sadly, all too often pride prevents us all from hearing instruction from another. Several listening a to this message will no doubt bless us all; may God grant wisdom and knowledge to us all.
