Every person leaves a legacy, either positive or negative. On Father's Day we honor and remember our earthly fathers for the contributions they have made in our lives. But what kind of impact will we have on the next generation? What will they remember about us? This message considers the legacy of David, king of Israel. David is remembered as the 'sweet psalmist of Israel' and as the warrior king. But his greatest legacy is that he was a 'man after God's own heart.' As a 'man after God's own heart', David enjoyed a personal relationship with God through faith. Throughout his life, he exhibited a strong faith and trust in the Lord. He obeyed God even when it was difficult to do. But when he messed up, sinned against God, he acknowledged his sin, made confession to God, asked for forgiveness, and sought to grow thereby. He was not perfect, but forgiven. The challenge is for all of us to develop hearts after God's own heart, and to have a positive spiritual impact upon the next generation. A legacy is like LEGOs in that it is built one block at a time. We need to start today to leave a positive spiritual legacy for our children and grandchildren. |
