We live in a day where a lot of people think that what is true to them is the whole truth. We need to be careful what we say. What we say does make a difference, not a "name it and claim it" where we try and control God, but our words do have consequences. If you need to promise something, that means that sometimes you might be lying and not reliable to uphold your promises. We need to let our yes be yes and our no be no and be a people of our word. We are not to be slack in our work. When we are given a job we need to pay attention or we are akin to one who destroys things. The name of the Lord is a strong tower while the wealth of the rich is their fortified city which will eventually fall. Sometimes, the first to present their case seems right, until someone else comes forth. For an illustration of David with this principle, see 2 Samuel chapters 9, 16, and 19. Things that appear to be random, like flipping a coin, are ultimately in God's control. Jesus is the Friend that sticks closer than a brother.
