These last chapters deal with the last 7 years of the prophesy of Daniel. Revelation deals with the earth and mankind at the end of time. We're reading about the trumpet judgments. The numbers 7 means complete in scriptures.
Vs1: 5th trumpet sounds, and a star falls from heaven. In Rev 8:10, that star is a heavenly body, like a meteorite. In Rev 9:1, it's not a meteorite, it's an angel. It was given the key to the bottomless pit, or the shaft of the abyss. Demonic beings are held down in this shaft somewhere on earth by the power of God. There is a key that opens this shaft to release these beings on the earth. Vs2: The bottomless pit is opening, and great smoke comes out, which darkens the sun and air. Vs3: locusts came out of the pit and they were given power like the scorpions on earth. Scorpions sting and affect the blood vessels and nervous system and cause a great deal of pain. Vs4: These demons are not allowed to hurt the earth or those with the seal of the Lord on their head. They are here to torment men without the Lord's seal for 5 months. They are not allowed to kill these unsaved people. These are the 144,000 with the seal of God on their forehead. Vs6: These men will try to kill themselves but will be unable to. Vs7: The shape of these locusts were that of horses with crowns of gold on their heads, faces of men, Vs8: They have the hair of women, teeth of lions. Vs9: They also have breastplates of iron and wings.
