Jesus Prays for the Apostles-Part II Outline of the High Priestly Prayer The Son prays for His glorification (1-5) The Son prays for His disciples (6-19) The Son prays for future believers (20-26) Because the Son loves His own, He pleads with the Father in their behalf. For their unity (11) The situation (11) Disciples are in the world, Jesus is going to the Father The request (11) Keep them in Your name that they may be one For their joy (12-13) The situation (12) I have guarded them, none were lost (except Judas) The request (13) That they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves For their protection (14-15) The situation (14) They have the Father's Word, the world hates them, they are not of the world, as I am not of the world The request (15) Not asking to take them out of the world Rather, keep them from the evil one For their sanctification (16-19) The situation (16, 18, 19) You sent Me, I have sent them, I consecrate Myself The request (17) Sanctify them in Your Word, which is truth (17) Applications: Thank God for the foundation of the Church—the apostles & prophets (1st cent) Strive for Christian unity, but unity in truth! Speak the Word to each other so that we might see the joy of Christ fulfilled in us! Pray that God will deliver us from the evil one...not that he will remove us!
