Great harm has been done to Scriptural prayer by the modern Pentecostal and charismatic movements through the misuse of Scriptures or in some cases the replacement of Scriptures with personal experience. The Word of God clearly subjects our experiences in prayer to the Word of God and not to experience. Prayer testimonials must be moved back from the recounting of mystical experiences to the centrality of Christ and His holy Word in all testimonies of prayer. The common refrain, “I don't know the Word of God like you but I do know what I have experienced” could not be further from the truth. If one does not know the Word of God he has know way of knowing what he has experienced. The old adage, “You are trying to put God in a box” is both shallow and deceptive. By subjecting our prayers to the Word of God we do not put God in a “box” but rather He puts us in the “book”, the Word of God. (When did faith change from our trusting God to our getting God to do our will? When did man begin to place his faith in his ability to conjure up belief? If I can only believer enough then I can get this thing to work.) God is not what we believe, by Faith we believe what God is as revealed in His Holy Word God's will is not what we believe, by Faith we believe God's will as revealed in His Holy Word. God does not do what we believe, rather by Faith we believe what God does as revealed in His Holy Word. By a word of faith command, God does not do our bidding, rather by faith in the commands of His Holy Word we do His bidding. Faith is not the ability to get God to act on our behalf, rather by faith we believe that He has acted and is acting on our behalf and trust in His sove
