Today is Sunday, May 31, 2020, and it is also the day of Pentecost that we see taking place in Acts 2 in your King James Bible. The events that happened here were momentous for the Kingdom Age believers who were assembled in the Upper Room, and when rightly divided, we see how those things combined with everything else up to Acts 7 formed the basis for the infant New Testament Church. Ironically, no sooner did it begin when it was forced to begin again starting Acts 8.
"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven." Acts 2:1-5 (KJB)
On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we are looking at the first Pentecost almost 2,000 years ago, and looking at Pentecost 2020, to see exactly how everything began and what it has become in our day. If you could transport Peter, James and John back to earth and have them attend a typical Christian 'church service' now, they might not be too sure what they were looking at, that's really how much things have changed. And yet, for the bible believer, there are important commonalities that are edifying to look at. |
