Are there any among us who don't want to be loved? I doubt it. We all want to know that we are loved; that we belong; that we are cared for and secure. As the time of his death drew near, Jesus knew a time was coming for his disciples when they would feel alone - helpless and insecure. Into that moment Jesus spoke these words, "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you… anyone who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and show myself to them." Jesus was speaking of his resurrection, and of the Holy Spirit whom he would send to be our 'Helper' after his Ascension. I am sure some of us are feeling alone, and maybe even unloved, at the moment. Perhaps you are feeling a little helpless and insecure yourself in these days. I pray these words of Jesus might strengthen and encourage us all in the truth of his very real and unsurpassable love and presence with us by the Spirit.
