Because the husband's headship is grounded in the events of creation, we can say that his position of delegated authority is both permanent and universal, and cannot be dismissed as culturally limited. What was established at creation, no culture may destroy or alter. Also, while the practices associated with the husband's headship were ruined by the fall of Adam in garden, his authority was delegated to him before the fall. In this command for wives to be submissive to their own husbands, Paul is addressing the church – a people redeemed and returned to a pre-fall condition. While the new creation in Christ removes the cultural barriers between male and female, and frees us from the distortion associated with the practices of male headship that came as a result of the fall, it does not remove, but in fact, restores the roles of headship and submission intended by God in the original creation.
The divine intention of marriage from the beginning was for the two to become one flesh and function together – not as a ‘two-headed monster,' but under one head – and that authority is given to the husband. However, because husbands and wives are sinners, and even redeemed Christian husbands and wives are influenced by remaining sin, there is an ongoing struggle, both generally, in the flesh of all men against authority, and specifically, in the wife's tendency toward rebellion and husband's tendency for a domineering autocratic rule.
Great Sermon! Dear pastor Joseph Losardo,
God bless you sir for your sermon
on Biblical Headship - It is very sound and godly seeded with sound biblical doctrine. I hardly do this, but I couldn't resist but send you a thank you note.
God bless you.
Great Sermon! I just finished listening to your message on biblical headship and it was certainly a blessing to me. I just hope you realize the extent your ministry is affecting the body of Christ. I would think that many Pastors would look around them and sort of limit their influence to their local body, but that is not the case I can assure you. ... I thank the Lord for you often.
Politically-Incorrect Sermon! This pastor dares to thrust through the doctrines of Political Correctness in regard to Men and Women and Marriage in society today with the Two-Edged Sword of the Word. Feminism and Humanist Democracy have infiltrated the church as much as society and a simple reading of the scriptures that this pastor touches on would make any politician shudder, and even most professing Christians to scramble to play down and attempt to neuter this teaching of authority and headship of men in God's Social Order. A follow-up sermon on women wearing hats in church, as a symbol of submission, as they used to (1 Cor. 11) would be in order. Even the seminars of "Biblical Manhood and Womanhood" attempt to flatter women into co-equal authority and soften men into feminine or pretended "mutual" submission. The truth is that Marriage and Society are now in chaos and have been since the Civil War when the Humanist Philosophy of absolute Equality (anti-authoritarianism) forced Abolitionism and sparked Feminism revolutionizing everything. The casualties of broken marriages are its fruit. Don't expect society to change until "conservative" churches do first, which will require pastors to Man-up and boldly preach and enforce it contrary to society's political-correctness.
WOW! MUST LISTEN TO! Great audio message to share, with couples, to improve marriages, to help parents, or for anyone to understand clearly God's ordained roles for male and female. Obedience to God's ways and structure of authority will bring harmony and God's greatest blessings. There are so many key insights in this entire message. A must listen to!
