Today we begin a new series entitled God At Work – directing all things for our good and his glory. Betrayal – it is one of the cruelest and most hurtful things that can happen to a person. I entitled the message today – Betrayed and Rejected. If you think about it, betrayal and rejection go hand in hand. 1) The Events that led to the Betrayal. a) Joseph brought a bad report about his brothers. – v2 b) Jacob's favoritism of Joseph – v3-4 c) Joseph's dreams of superiority – v5-11 2) The Act of the Betrayal – v12-28 3) The Result of the Betrayal: - v29-36 4) The betrayal and rejection of Jesus Christ.
Joseph is a Shadow of Christ. Jesus was rejected by His own. Yet God's purposes had not failed. Indeed, the betrayal and rejection of Jesus was the outworking of God's gracious plan of salvation for in the betrayal and rejection of Jesus and the subsequent suffering and death on the cross – Jesus secured eternal salvation for all who would turn from their sins and embrace Him as Lord and Savior.
