People's ultimate hope may range from a job promotion to a secure retirement and so forth, but the unique hope of the Christian is to be in the presence of the risen Lord Jesus Christ - and to not just be spirits in his presence but to be in his presence with a similar resurrected body of their own. The resurrection of all people, both believers and unbelievers, will happen at the end of the Age when Christ returns, but believers will receive reconstituted bodies in which to enter the presence of the risen Jesus. Both Old and New Testaments clearly declare this truth. We humans, as bodied, finite creatures, need a resurrection body because physicality is all we know. God graciously provides this for us so we can ultimately be in Christ's presence with resurrected bodies "like unto" his glorious resurrected body.
