One of the most common misunderstandings of doctrines of salvation by grace through faith, eternal security, and divine sovereign election is that it appears as though it affords the Christian the freedom to sin. In Romans, Paul's answer to that is "Shall we sin all the more because grace abounds? May it never be!" This message teaches why grace is not a license to sin, but provides the power and freedom not to sin. What people who take the line of thought described above fail to keep in mind is that upon receiving our new status and righteousness of Christ, we also receive the Holy Spirit. The person of the Holy Spirit plays the chief role is guiding and empowering the Christian in a life of holiness and the conformity to the image of Christ.
