Last week we noted that the central attraction of Heaven is the “throne of God and of the Lamb.” The eternal heaven of the future will be different from the place which is God's present abode. There is going to be a “cosmic remodeling” of both Heaven and earth (2 Pet. 3:13; Rev. 21:1). This renovation will be so thorough that the former heaven and earth will not be remembered (Isa. 65:17).
Several places in the Bible speak of the “new heaven.” The writer to the Hebrews actually speaks of a heavenly city (Heb. 11:10,16; 12:22; 13:14), but Revelation 21 contains the most complete description of this capital, the “Holy City,” the New Jerusalem. It is absolutely breath-taking!
We cannot imagine the glories and ecstatic experiences that await us in the New Jerusalem! But we have already had a “foretaste of Heaven” (Heb. 6:4; 1 Cor. 2:9,10). This will be our eternal home if we belong to Christ. We will not get bored with it nor tired of it. No country boy will feel “out of his element” in this city!
Let's begin now to prepare for our final move by living holy lives (2 Pet. 3:11) and enlisting others who will welcome us into the “eternal tabernacles” some day (Lk. 16:9).
