The brothers head back to Egypt to buy more grain. This time they must bring Benjamin with them. Jacob after much consternation allows Benjamin to go at Judah beckoning. Before they go Jacob prays for their journey and outcome. His prayer was that God Almighty - El Shadai - would grant them mercy. Mercy is what was granted to the brothers as they reached Egypt fearful that they would be taken prisoner for the silver that was found in their sacks. The steward answers their fear in verse 23 But he said, "Peace be with you, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks; I had your money." Then he brought Simeon out to them. The brothers must have been socked at the mercy they received from an Egyptian steward! But there was more to come as they prepared for a feast with their brother Joseph, whose identity is at this time still hidden from them. Would the brothers past this test of jealousy? We'll see in our study. And finally we apply these things to our life as believers today.
