Life in a family must be tied to doctrine. This is very clear from Paul's letter to the Ephesians. He gives clear instructions to families about what they should do, but he makes it clear that God designed family life to be a work of the Holy Spirit, by the power of the resurrection. Paul is careful to explain not only what parents should do but how they should do it. But he also explains the bigger picture of parenting – it is a result of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this message, I will explain the fundamental doctrinal principle of family life – the power of the resurrection - and give a practical illustration. The illustration is drawn from the discipline of children from Hebrews 12:5-13. In God's pattern for discipline, we see the underlying doctrinal foundations for all of family life, and a common mistake parents make in disciplining their children. The warning throughout this message is, be careful that your family is not simply all about rules and not about Spirit and life and Resurrection.
