"Christ is risen!" Followers of Christ have greeted one another with these words for centuries of Resurrection Sabbath. But before there could be Resurrection Sunday, there had to be Crucifixion Friday. On that Friday morning at 9:00, the soldiers nailed Jesus to His cross & lifted Him up before the many mockers and the few mourners. At 3:00 Friday afternoon, the Son of God deliberately breathed His last. Six hours of suffering, but not defeat. Six hours of suffering, but not of silence. So the NT records seven words of Jesus from Calvary's cross: Last Sunday, we considered these three: The Prayer of Forgiveness "Father, forgive them…" The Promise of Salvation "This day you shall be with Me…" The Directive of Love "Woman, behold your son."
And now this morning we'll examine Jesus' next four words from that cruel Calvary cross… The Cry of Anguish; The Sound of Suffering; The Shout of Victory; Jesus' Prayer of Contentment.
