After her glorious height during the reign of David and Solomon, the soon split nation was torn and ravaged by enemies abroad and domestic. Economically, territorially, but most important spiritually; the nation was crumbling. Wickedness and immorality most often sat upon the throne and ultimately led to the collapse of the beloved Empire. For Judah, among the dark pages of history there were a few shining stars that stood out against the blackness of the night sky. Every so often God would raise up a devout king. His father may have been rotten, his children rotten, but while he ruled…he did that which was right in the sight of God. Were it not for these few godly kings that were impressed by God to return the nation to the worship of Jehovah alone, no doubt there would be even less left of Israel today.
