After singing Psalm 118 with his disciple following the last Passover meal with them, Jesus leads his disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane. Here he pours out his deep sorrow and is nearly overcome with the descending sufferings as he faces his death on behalf of sinners. The horror of him, the righteous and sinless One, assuming the place of the sinful and experiencing the judgment of God is overwhelming. He longs for his friends to share with him but overcome with sorrow they fall into sleep. Alone Jesus submits in his humanity in prayer to the accomplishment of God's will.
