The psalmist here is hurting in his soul or mind, emotions, passions, or desires. We will all have those times when we too feel the same way. Those times when we are in such a bad way that depression has us stuck on the ground, no longer having any interest in those things that we usually enjoy. We can even get so low that we look to God and wonder where He is at. We don't have to stay there, we need to admit our position and cry out to God for reviving. He can even make us better than what we were before.
