“Testimony” is defined as a public acknowledgement of evidence or proof; the solemn statement of a witness under oath. These stones here in our text and in passages to follow are giving us just that. They show us that there was a time in our lives when the Lord saved us. A reminder of how He brought us over from death unto life. These stones serve as a page marker to tell us this is as far as you should go; that to pass any further into our old man's life is dangerous to us. That we are messing with things of this world that God doesn't want us doing anymore. But not only that, but they show us that God's grace is sufficient. David went into battle with five smooth stones and only needed one to bring the giant in his life to his knees. God's grace will deliver us and leave plenty of room to spare. Perhaps we got out of His will though. Perhaps we messed with the world and got burned and have been left thinking well now it is too late. These stones also tell us that God can revive us. That He can revive the stones from the rubbish! With God it is not too late until we draw our last. The big question is this: do we want these same stones to steal our testimony? Jesus said if these should hold their peace the stones would immediately cry out. That would be a bad testimony for us. Better to get it right before it is too late; because the stones were meant for our benefit.
