Great Sermon! There is one part of Edwards' famous sermon that is probably least palatable to the modern mind. In our day we are told in a famous tract, God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life. Edwards' told an unreconciled sinner, God abhors you and is dreadfully provoked. These two methods of addressing the unconverted are so antithetical one cannot but wonder if it represents two different views of the holiness of God and the real condition of the sinner. If Edwards' is correct, a lot of modern evangelism is wrong simple because it is anxious to tell the good news without enlightening the conscience as to why the news is good. But secondly, the end result of the modern evangelism is it leaves one with the conclusion that the issue is not at all urgent but something to think about every once in awhile, but not that serious to be put off. There then is no crying out in some desperation, What must I do to be saved? Acts 16:31
