SERMON INFO
There were three groups in John 6:

1. The Jewish religious leaders rejected Christ without any appearance of following Him. They hated Him because He threatened their power and position.

2. The crowds of apparent disciples defected from Christ. There were many in His day who followed Him in a superficial, shallow way. Yet they stopped "following" Him because they could not accept His difficult doctrines.

3. The Twelve Apostles -- In John 6:67, our Lord questioned the Twelve, "Will ye also go away?"

Our Lord did not ask this question to gain information. Our Lord knows all things (see v. 64). Rather, he asked this poignant question to appeal to their sympathy, to test their sincerity, and as a call for their fidelity (see vs. 5-6).

In response, Peter answered, "Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God." This a great confession of affirmation of Christ's claims and of trust in Him.

There is no one else, other than our Lord Jesus Christ, who is worthy of our faith and our following. He possesses the very words which satisfy our souls and give us eternal life.

In the final words of this chapter, we see that our Lord knew that Judas would betray Him. There are those today who are in the congregation of Christians yet are really of the devil. These are the hypocrites. Let us search our hearts and make sure of our confession of faith.
