Here in Luke's account of the Transfiguration there are two great truths to embrace: the content of the conversation of Moses and Elijah with Jesus which was his coming departure, or "exodus," referring to his death on the cross. Thus we see that the death of Jesus for sinners was the reason the Father sent him into the world. The second truth is that the Father speaks unmediatedly from the clouds and commands the disciples to "listen to him!" This text is the realization of the prophecy given by Yahweh to Moses in Deut.18:15-19 that He would sent a future prophet and he must be listened to for he would declare God's true word. This prophet can be be none other than Jesus Christ our Lord. So truly, we and all people must listen to Jesus Christ in that we bow before him and submit to his Word and will.
